I have supported a secession for a long, long, long time.

If I could live in a country that backed its currency and didnt spy on its citizens and actually followed the rule of law I think that would be great.

Whether such a country encompassed the current 50 states or not is irrelevant to me. I honestly think we would be better off as 3 countries, the Northeast , the West Coast and the Midwest+South. Having one super centralized entity is overrated, and generally only good for the elites in any society.

That's some interesting revisionism you've got going on there. Those requests were denied straight from the state department and never even made it to congress.

On Sunday, he said more should be spent on diplomatic security.

But as part of the Republican majority that has controlled the House the last two years, Mr. Issa joined in cutting nearly a half-billion dollars from the State Department’s two main security accounts. One covers things like security staffing, including local guards, armored vehicles and security technology; the other, embassy construction and upgrades. In 2011 and 2012, President Obama sought a total of $5 billion, and the House approved $4.5 billion. In 2009, Mr. Issa voted for an amendment that would have cut nearly 300 diplomatic security positions. And the draconian budgets proposed by Mitt Romney’s running mate, Representative Paul Ryan, would cut foreign affairs spending by 10 percent in 2013 and even more in 2016.

The secessionist movement, as you so eloquently put, is nothing more than a flag waving exercise to bring attention to the fact that a great many folks are not happy with how things are being run in Washington.

Think of it as a peaceful version of angry villagers armed with pitchforks and torches.

Budget cuts are not the same as "denying additional security that was requested." Those cuts were in place long before and were never used as justification for not approving additional security personnel by the state department. In fact, the budget was never mentioned until the NYT decided to try and provide political cover to this administration.

If they wanted to pay additional security they could have chosen not to buy some of the fleet of Volts used by the embassies. Who the hell works for a foreign embassy in a potentially hostile area and drives a fucking Volt anyway? The answer is, no one with a brain.

The bigger question still remains unanswered and largely unasked. What was our ambassador doing at a "consulate" (read CIA meeting house), with no security, on 9/11?
