Step 1: Mental training.

Patience is a key factor in DF as is clearly shown by Aventurine in the sales process of this game. Do not get discouraged and raise your Patience skill. The greater your patience skill the easier you will adapt to the game.

Step 2: Information

For those that are not ingame yet I strongly suggest you hound the forums and remember the useful information. The first couple of hours of darkfall will suck for you as you learn the interface and get accustomed to the feel of the game.

Step 3: character creation

The official guild race is Alfar. Roll non alfar at your own risk and frustration as you will have to run back to your starting area in order to train skills and take care of racial business(this is until our town is upgraded fully and we get trainers then this wont matter but for now...you hate life at your own risk)


Step 4: Hot keys

The minute you get in game go to your GUI and options and set your hot keys.

The first thing you should do is change PARRY to your right mouse button instead of using that as your GUI toggle which is default. You will hate those instances where you will be in a battle and you mistakenly click right mouse button just to pop your GUI and get stuck standing skill until you get out of the toggle GUI mode.

Pressing "T" to change your swing from horizontal to vertical is important. I logged in for the first time and ran to the newbie monster area. other toons like to run up in between you and your monster and try to get you to go grey (10 secs on first hit, 2 min on second hit) so they can gank you! switch to vertical swing so you have less chance to accidentaly hit those nearby.
