We had many large scale battles 100+ vs 100+ in Shadowbane over the course of many years with different leadership and different allies. I mention SB because it is the closest game I participated in with KGB that DFO emulates.

In order of importance:

1.) Real-Time Intel, Eyes (i.e. Scouts)
2.) Central Commander for KGB coordinating with allies
3.) A single Group Leader in each group taking direction from Central Commander
4.) Knights following the Group Leader's direction

Not every opening strategy works, as metioned above ... need to be flexible on the battlefield & react to the Intel coming in.

Sometimes it totally sucked to be in the summoning group, but you did it because it was needed.

You may have been in a horse group, waiting to flank & engage ... listenting to the battle unfold, but waiting for the call to engage.

Sometimes you totally disagreed with the call, but followed the order & discussed later.

Sometimes you won & sometimes you did not ... but the key was to leave strategy analysis until after the battle ... the most frustrating moments were when people were questioning or did not follow an order because all the facts weren't known to them ... most of the time purposely, due to spies in the ranks.

We had our cities toppled, smashed many others ... we got zerg'd & sometimes led the zerg.

Hat's off to Binbs, Camb, Holrom & others that led and learned, passed the knowledge down to the successors ... we had some epic battles over the years of SB.

I think DFO has similar potential, dynamics may be a bit different ... but the above points are critical to successful campaigns.
