Yeah, I've listened to that guy before, and agree with him on some points.

However, he's basically telling us that Jesus didn't exist simply because of all the coincidences that align with him; basically attempting to divert us away from the Real Truth: Regardless of how fucked up organized religion is (and I fully believe that with ALL religions) Jesus did indeed exist. His existence was chronicled by the Romans who hung him from a cross; along with this is numerous archeological evidence, including the scrolls of Mary Magdalene that was conveniently omitted from the collaboration called the original Bible (watch the History channel) which spoke of Jesus on multiple ocassions.

The problem is: so many people want to believe Jesus didn't exist simply because they don't believe in Christianity. I don't know if they've realized this or not, but Jesus wasn't a Christian either. That came around after his death. Jesus was very much real - just as real as Plato and a myriad of other extremely wise philosophers that have existed in history.

The bottom line for me: I scoff at both atheism and extreme right ring religionists: The former because they hate religion to the point that they fail to look at simple historical evidence proving Jesus' existence (whether he was a just a philosophising carpenter or a Prophet or THE Son of God can be debated forever); and the latter - because they're so blinded by brainwashing that they can't wake up and realize that both the New and Old Testaments aren't whole - a lot was omitted for the sake of stronger control over people, and to ensure the power of the church (total bullshit and totally anti-spiritual - I doubt Jesus would have condoned any of it if he were present).

I actually agree 100% with Crimthan on this, believe it or not.

I'm super glad you don't like organized religion, neither do I, and neither does he. The recording has so little to do with whether Jesus was a miracle-worker, a normal guy, an asshole illusionist magician, or completely non-existent though. The main focus is him yelling at those blinded by their religious leaders for being so goddamn stupid (pardon the pun) and blowing themselves up, fighting in wars, and the like because [insert appropriate reward based on respective religion here]. The point is to stop inflicting your views on other people, no one actually gives a shit about what anyone else thinks their god would like most, especially atheists; we just want to live our lives unburdened by the constant misinterpretations of the half-finished stories in the [insert respective holy literature here].

It's really frustrating to see religion put their temporary roadblocks on advances in science and technology. As an example, I don't understand how people can't see how obvious it is that stem cells ARE going to be used in the future to do all sorts of wonderful things, and when that times comes everyone is going to be totally cool with it and no one will even remember that there was any opposition in the first place.

If I keep ranting I'll just lose track of what I'm talking about though, so I'm gonna cut myself off here until someone feels like a debate. ^^

I had a long post to follow up my previous post with, but I've decided to narrow it down to only one sentence:

I think everyone should adopt pre-theistic Buddhism.

I don't mind hearing it, its when my life becomes governed by it that I have an issue.

If someone says to me "God exists." I respond with a polite little "I doubt it, but we'll see when the time comes."

If someone says to me "You're going to Hell because you support abortion, gay marriage, and stem cell research!" I tell them to fuck off and die in a fire.

All in all, being expressive is VERY different from being and overbearing control freak, and that's what these madmen suicide bombers and the like are. And yes, I am putting those who want laws against things like abortion, stem cell research, and gay marriage on the same level as suicide bombing Islam radicals.

Carl Sagan. I have a few titles from both of them and they
have some interesting insights on this subject. A few of
the others I have are The End of Faith and the Psycho Bible
but they are tough reading. Those titles you do good to
get through a chapter without your head hurting
