In darkfall, everyone can kind of do everything, so there's not really any specialization. Everyone can and should be able to and good at: archery/mana missile, mounted combat, and melee combat (even though it currently is horrible).

IMO combat in darkfall moves too quickly to establish detailed tactics. The tactics you learn are pretty simple. Some of what I've learned from the handful of fights I've been in so far are:

- Bows rule this game
- Always try and bait them right into your readied bows
- Better to mount up to fall back than just die on the field becuse when you die you're out of the fight - You probably can't run back in time
- Always make ganking fallen enemies a priority
- Conserve your stam by not shooting your bow unless you have a good chance to hit
- Using waypoints to keep the group together is key
- Flanking can be a good tactic if you are careful not let one or two guys get swarmed (tell them to mount at first sign of swarm)
- If your group is low on stam and/or health, mount up and see if they'll chase while you chug pots - By the time you're up to full, they'll be out of stam from shooting arrows - turn around and slaughter them
- If you see a group and they open fire immediately with arrows aplenty, play groundhog behind a rock [popping out and back in] and let them run out their stam

Prior Army Combat Arms MOS.

I am not even going to comment beyond that, except in-game mechanics currently really strain the ability to have high level real time dynamic strategies.

Flanking, spec-grouping, baiting, and coordination are KINGS right now.

Yap, the in-game mechanics limit tactics extremely, and aside from what Tasorin mentioned, Reconnaissance and/or Surveillance (they're actually different foci) are a given in any MMO and actually works.

My Military Experience:

USMC Sergeant, Active Duty - 3 months infantry before successfully completing the STA (Surveillance Target Acquisition) Indoc. After the indoc I was a member of the Bn 2/2 Scout/Sniper Platoon for roughly 2.5 years.

USAF Lieutenant, Active Duty - Currently going through Flight Line management school.

So we've established a few basics here and that is what I aimed at from the start of this thread...
ThiS:

What makes this game "tick" with regard to combat?

and...
What is this guild prepared to do about it.

Tactics from what I read here are largely:

Hit and run.
Range is king.
Melee sucks.
Drain their stam and you will win.

Sounds like pretty standard FPS stuff.

With this in mind I ask the following?
Who'd played an FPS here?...one with a good group of players?
BF2, Combat Arms, etc.
Anyone who has will tell you.
You just get lucky with the group sometimes, but when you do its because:
They know their own skill level.
They know the map.
They know which weapon to use when.
lastly...
They know the guy next to them knows everything they know.

Doesn't hurt to pwn the nubs either.

All I'm saying is...What can be more random and run and gun that an fps! and yet a good organized clan will ALWAYS destroy he guys who just get "thrown together".

Its because these guys know their shit and they fight on the same map constantly.

Who are KGB's enemies? Its a given that ANUSman is one...
am I right? ok then...
We train by NOT training.
Organize a raid EVERY DAY. Hit the same area and same grp EVERY DAY.
Next week...choose another grp.

ok...I getting waaaaaay ahead of myself...I'll save that for another thread.

Any other good suggestions?

I refuse to believe that a game of this scale with grps of this size are immune to at least SOME form of tactical advantage!?

WHAT ABOUT FREAKING NUMBERS!?!!?

Throw me a bone here...puh lease because the very first fkng second I log into this game...I am going to go find a guy and I'm gonna kill him. A lot. Even if I lose A LOT. Why?
"cause eventually I will either kick his ass or have learned enough from it that I will know how to kick someone else's ass. Primitive and retarded as it sounds...Its still training.
Its still Some kind of training.

Damn.. I just need to get in there and figure this game out.
