You know Uber, your kinda right. I havn't been "WoWed" by a game for a LONGG time. Well, to be honest, UO never "Wowed" me, cause it was more about fun than graphics. Meridiran 59, SB and even DAOC had that "wow" feeling at first.

Maybe it's not necessarily our age, but the fact we've played so many of them, that makes it less, "wow".

I am all for DFO, but, if it disappoints like so many others, I am done with MMOs. I *might* revisit MMOs I've played before. For the most part, however; after 12yrs of MMO gaming, I will retire from the genre all together.

They've all mostly become nothing more than graphic-enhanced chatrooms. It's as if the genre is drifting toward mere 10-man multiplayer co-op games with common areas to stage in. Guilds have become little more than privatized chatrooms due to poor game design. Friends cannot play together and are forced to pickup total strangers based on level/gear requirements.

If DFO turns out to be more of the same, I am through.

In UO, a guild meant you had a gang at your back when things got rough, you also had the back of your guild in the same manner. Recently things get rough where? Arenas? PvP zones? a pvp "button" determines rough or not? Pfft.

With all this said--
I have no other choice but to approach DFO with jaded reserve.

I mean seriously, we'll see.

lol Jet, it's funny. The Warhammer Guild I rolled with had a LOT of drama and guild politics as guilds tried to absorb one another, and when i said that it was actually fun to deal with guild politics, people didn't believe me. hehe

I guess that's how Shadobane corrupts you, guild drama actually gets fun.

As for MMOs, the only real way I see myself to stop playing MMOs, is if real life time constraints don't allow me the opportunity to play.

If darkfall goes through the cracks, the next MMO i'd be waiting for is Stray Bullet Game's next MMO (the new company from the makers of Shadowbane).

It's an addiction, I know. hehe

Although I think it would be a mistake to linger on the memories about Ultima Online, especially since we'll see a lot of the same ideas, and game mechanics in Darkfall. Fact is, nothing will ever compare to Ultima Online in terms of gameplay, freedom and player base. In fact, it wasn't only the game itself that made it great, it was the fact that nothing really came before it. (Meridian 59 and MUDs are the exception) UO was great because it was a lot of people's first GREAT MMO. Not to mention, the community didn't have any expectations besides playing the game, cause they had nothing to compare it to.

UO was a good time, but if your coming into darkfall with the mindset that it has to mimic the things that happened in UO, then nothing in Darkfall will ever satisfy you.

Like many things in life, one has to adapt or die. My plan ... lower my expectations, expect a lot of bugs, and embrace guild politics once again. I can deal with sb.exe-like bugs, if it has the same power struggles, falling empires and general badassery that SB showed me.

Good times.

Just crush the enemy without directing a word of acknowledgement to them.

When they attempt to have talks or discussions, send out forces again, to crush the enemy.

Say nothing on the official game forums, except for member recruitment. Speak only to allies. The vanquished need only know that they are subject to the conquering nation.

When false accusations fly about this or that, do not reply. Send out forces again to crush the enemy.

With familiarity, enemies will lose fear and respect. However, if they never have any idea of your next move, nor know your intentions, nor know the weaknesses or foibles of your leaders - then you hold the reigns of power.
