Without items being of value what the 'risk' of dying? I am not saying we should want items to be all powerful but the economy needs to exist (in whatever form) to give value to things so you get *$*@! pissed when you die, or you lewt that PK who ganked a noob and you think "Yeah this sword will do nicely in my collection of ass kicking blades"
UO had an economy - Mage training needed sheit loads of componets to be consumed and you had to buy them or 'find' them on a body. Potions propped people up in battle and they had value in their usefulness.
DAoC - many of the best items were made by crafters so it took shiet loads of effort & gold to get to the top end of your craft so at the end you sell to others for boat loads so you can buy other crafters high end crap-o-la.

I suppose my point (aka rant) is if items are of little or no value then we just have a style of quake bash'm up game with fancy towns and mounts.

I'm pretty sure what the devs have said is that items will give you an edge in battle, but it won't be that "purples" versus "blues" will be a guaranteed win like it is in some games.

The risk, when you die, is that your death causes your side a setback, and a potential chance of losing the battle...or even the war. When items are worth too much, then people are more concerned about the items and not blood and carnage on the battlefield.

I remember dying and watching a long sword of vanquishing get looted. It weapon was just powerful enough to give you that stomach twist.

Another thing I hear alot of complaints about looting and friendly fire all that is to me is it takes the carebears out of mix and shows who is the pvpers of today the oldschoolers or the youngbucks I guess we will find out soon. From experience don't carry anything of value to the battlefield or anywhere of importance or you will loose it guarnteed.

i always carried 10 fresh dp'd kryss's it seemed to do the job and i had hundreds pre made at my house hehehe u guys and yer shiny swords!
