Ryu asked me to let ya'll know that they are out of Port Arthur and safe in Austin. They left in plenty of time to make it to the bumper to bumper traffic leaving the area and it only took them about 18 hours to get there.

Anyway, they are fine and will return when they either get internet or they get to go home.

Good to hear. I thought the storm was going to New Orleans though. Is Pt. Arthur on the edge of Tx or something, or is the storm just that huge?

I'm glad they're safe, and hope the trip was fun.

Port Arthur is right on the boarder of LA, they got hit pretty hard when Katrina blew through as well but because they are a smaller town they didn't get as much news as some of the other Katrina effected areas. When I went down there last year to visit there are still buildings damaged from Katrina.

As soon as I hear more news from the boys I will keep everyone informed.

Its aimed directly at them. They have it projected to run right over the top of the TX/Louie border. It has dropped down to a Cat 2.

Yeah rita hit PA really hard. We were blessed for this one but now we have to keep an eye out on Ike, which looks like he has a chance on getting into the Gulf Of Mexico.

Ya. Imagine my excitement at hearing about Ike. :P

Port Arthur is about seventy miles *points* that-a-way.
( East / NorthEast ) About forty miles or so from the
LA border.

I refuse to leave myself. Not going to sit in that
bumper to bumper parking lot. Definitely not going
to do it with a loud and obnoxious parrot in the car
with me. We'll just batten down the hatches, shake
our fist at the sky ( You call this a storm ?! ) and
ride it out.

The only thing I hate about the storms is the power
loss. Oh and the damn mosquitoes. . . .

Ya just got home and now looks like Ike the turner will come toward us. Rita is what hit us almost direct. But as far as storms in the past 3 years from rita nothing but tropical storms and 1 category 1 storm. It is a very active season as of right now there is 3 named storms in the alantic and 1 in the pacific. So tx crew might be crippled for a while due to this very active hurricane season.

Just to make along story short rita was stronger then katrina not to be mean but you have alot of stupid people in new Orleans that didnt take the warning last time when katrina hit. Also wasnt katrina that did the damage it was a barge that hit the levee wall and flood the lower ninth ward. The storm itself wasnt as strong as rita but NO didnt get it as a bad as gulf port mississippi. The news channels just cover the stupidty more then the people really hurt and really lost something.

It's seriously looking that way, elph. We're talking a 20 foot storm surge with 15+ foot waves on top of that. We're already below sea level, so this doesn't bode well at all. Wish us the best everyone, especially those retards meiyia & khii; who decided to stay home & ride it out.

We don't have first-hand information yet, but it seems that flooding was nowhere near as extensive as expected in any of the cities' we live in. That doesn't mean nobody's house was damaged/obliterated; but we just don't really know as of yet. Some cities very close to ours have been thoroughly and completely flooded, but none of ours as far as we know.

Also, it hasn't been said when we'll be allowed back to check on our residences. I'm personally expecting it to be around a week, maybe a week & a half before we can even go back to check on stuff. It will likely be longer before we can safely go back, pending we still have homes in the first place.

All that said, serious thanks to everyone for the kind words and well wishes. It means more than anything else at this time. So once again, thanks everyone!

Well my dad has made it back to our town but thats becuse he works for the electric company (Entergy) in our area. He has made it to my house and my moms and our homes are good. I have a large branch in my driveway and lost a few roof shingles, but no physical damnage. So im still here in Louisana, and my family is driving me insane. I might head to Mobile, Alabama since my sister and my wife's cousin is there.

Wow I am thankful that all of you guys are doing ok. I hope the rest check out to show no damage to their homes. Its really a bad year for storms. When we were traveling back from Arkansas we got hit by Gustav on the highway, nothing compared to what you guys have gone through but it was still very scary to drive through all of the heavy rains and flooded areas of interstate.

Whats up everyone, just checking in. So far from what i heard our house has a window blow out but nothing else much. I have only talked to someone who has seen the outside of the house.
But i still believe conditions in the city are bad, so i don't know how long i will be displaced.

I hope all your stuff is safe. I live on a hill, but always thought what I would run out with if I had to evacuate. Lots of people would bring pets and stuff. I would grab KGB W3 and my PC and run.

well everyone is safe but our towns were flooded to some extent our sea wall held but still had huge flooding issue one town in our area that didn't have a levy system is under water. The town next to it is just as bad. I'm talking 9 ft of water. They have people that stayed and were on top of there roofs fighting snakes off by the hundreds. Rescues are still underway and we shouldn't be home for weeks or longer.

Well that was interesting. . . . . .

As some of you may / may not know, I live twenty miles
north of Galveston, TX. Power went out about 7:30pm Fri
( CST ) and came back on about an hour ago. Cable head
reset and internet access came back online about forty
five minutes later.

That was a rough ride for sure.

Initial eye-wall winds were from the NE whereas the end
pass ( bottom side of the eyewall ) switched to due west.
Second pass was far stronger than the primary one without
a doubt. I can't begin to calculate the wind speeds but
the second pass was nearly impossible to stand up in.
I stayed under cover as shingles were flying around
embedding themselves in trees, fences and whatnot.

I was outside trying to keep minor issues from becoming
major ones for most of the storm. The street flooded very
quickly. I started placing bricks on the driveway as
marker points once the water was high enough. My estimates
would put the water rise level to 3-5 feet in under two
hours. It made it 1/2 way up my driveway before it started
to recede.

No major damage to the house other than a few missing
shingles ( about a dozen ). Fence held as we built it with
high winds in mind. It is the ONLY fence standing in one
piece. Every other fence in the area was obliterated.
Limbs and trees everywhere. Power lines all over the place.
Many, many houses missing most of their shingles and even
parts of roofs and awnings. Garage doors that faced N or W
were bowed in from the wind force.

While roaming about the yard during the storm, I came
across a dove floating in the rising water. It was still
alive so I picked it up and placed it in an outdoor aviary
I have for Goober ( my cockatoo ). It was protected from
the wind / rain by a storage building and the fence and it
was well up out of the water.

Over the next hour or so, I found six more and they all
ended up in the aviary. I came across three that I was
unable to get to in time.

All the survivors were let loose the next day once the
winds died down enough.

To top it all off, we have a magnolia tree in the front
yard which survived the storm as well. The day after the
storm passed two flowers bloomed at the very top of the
tree. Was quite cool. I like to think of it as the trees
way of saying " Screw you CNN and your Certain Death
Bullshit " lol

Tip: Fireants will cluster together and form a floating
island in any flood conditions. Thus, watching where the
hell you're walking is essential. Bumping into a floating
nest of fireants will make for an unpleasant day. Didn't
spot any snakes out and about ( surprised )

Managed to keep my fish-tank alive by parallel chaining
a bunch of old 12-volt ups batteries together and wiring
them into an inverter. Worked damn well for running a small
fan to boot. . .

The only real casualty here would be the contents of the
fridge / freezer. With no generator ( folks were getting
into fist fights over them at Home Depot ) everything in
the fridge went bad. You can bet one of my next purchases
will be a whole house / auto-start 10Kw generator. Will
not go without power again.

Eh, I don't know... About three years ago when Rita hit and knocked out my power back home out for about 4 or 5 days, I sort of enjoyed it. I mean, yeah, I was bored out of my mind, and eating canned food gets old quick, but it was actually really nice to just live a really peaceful life, reading books, going to be slowly after sundown, etc. for a few days.

Glad to hear everything turned out well for you, Daye; especially how close you are to Galveston. I just learned that my dad's house in Kemah was obliterated. That sucks, but he makes some ridiculous amount of money so he said he's not worried about it. Oh, I wanted to say how awesome that thing was with the birds in the puddles you took care of.

I have a serious soft spot in my heart for animals, so I'll pass along a huge thank you for helping those poor things. They're affected by stuff like this just as much as we are, and they don't have a FEMA to help out in the aftermath.

I got to head back to TX yesterday and check on my house. I had my bedroom window blown out and there had been about a foot of water or so in there. The carpet was still wet, but of course the water was gone. Thankfully, nothing was really ruined. I also learned that Ryu/Mei/Bloodstar/Khii's house is also ok. A few busted windows, and I think that's pretty much it. Given water & power, it's definitely livable. I also heard that some parts of certain cities in our area are already starting to get power back. Here's hoping we get to safely head home soon.
