Lets see you strafe with a bunch of metal armor on, Crim :P

Anyways, my thoughts on the video are that the graphics look mediocre at best but I can do with not so hot graphics as long as the gameplay is there. The combat looks like it'll be pretty fun.

You would see me do just that. I used to run 10 miles with boots and combat utilities on, wearing a 40-60 pound pack when in the STA Platoon (aka Scout/Sniper platoon) in the USMC. Pretty sure I could strafe with 20-30 pounds of metal armor on. Besides that, some of those people in combat weren't wearing metal armor.

Eh they look like they strafe a pretty decent speed to me. At least fairly realistic.

Edit: Plus I'm pretty sure metal armor weighs more than 20-30 lbs. Wikipedia says 45 and one site I found that sells that kinda stuff said 80.

Depends on what the armor is made of, what kind of armor it is, and regardless of weight; if it's displaced around the body well enough, some of the weight can be negated.

For instance, I learned that there's a huge difference between letting the pack rest on your lower back and hips vs riding higher on your back - especially when tracking through the field in 80-100 pounds of gear; 6 canteens of water, 6 MRE's, a Prc 77 radio plus crypto gear, maps, yada yada.

You know, they should implement that in games; if you are stronger, you can strafe with heavier loads at a faster rate than someone who is weaker. I think that would be cool.

UO had something like that or was it DAoC... all the memories just fade together at this point... but when you were overweight you could still move but at a much slower rate. I think it was a good idea, it added a sense a realism to the game - in a good way. Basically when you were fat as a pig, full with loot, and too greedy to drop any of it, you were forced to move at the walk speed till you reached the town bank. Made you laugh seeing your sitting duck of a character lugging a nice day's worth of booty to the bank. Will a PK get you first or will you make it safely... the tension was fun! Or even better would a pk see you and think easy kill but then your fat ass would end up killing them despite your handicap and then you'd loot his sorry ass and now you'd be walking even slower! LOL.

Think that was UO. Other games simply don't let you carry any more than a certain amount. NWN2 slows you down too based on how overloaded you are, per strength requirement. Probably some of the most interesting and realistic character-based game mechanics still happen in good AD&D games.

I agree that would be pretty sweet. And I do wonder if Darkfall will have a feature like that because it seems like if any game would do it it would be them.

I think that it's kinda funny that most gamers like games like WoW, and that's why they're successful. Then on the other hand, you have us; we bitch just as much as the carebears did when games were hard, except we're all like "Make life suck!" while they were like "It's a game, make it 'fun'!"

You're right, but it's not because I want it to be harder, really. I want a game that makes me feel like I'm in Real Life to most extents, except that I'm able to lop people's heads off, raid, pillage, and be named a conqueror for it. If that was possible in RL in this day and age, I'd be all over it like flies on shit. However, that age has long been dead...so I look for it in games to give me a sense of "belonging."

*Makes note* Don't be Crim's neighbor incase he sleep walks over to my house and thinks he's Conan still.

*Makes 2nd note* If I do end up as his neighbor, dont allow him to play MMO's just before bed.
