I am refusing to participate until CIG actually has something worth spending time going through. Way to many changes going to happen between 2.0 and a full blown end of development for beta. We all know how to pilot, go pew-pew and meta the core game concepts.

I looking forward to the CBT for SQ42 personally to see how they have been doing on there AI and to stress test flight and hit detection mechanics. I say this because I expect that SQ 42 will come later in the cycle and be a more meaningful test point than alpha testing modules.

At a minimum, I would expect a AAA stand alone (Squadron 42) and a broken laggy PU, and that's only if the ass fell out of CIG and the hype train falls right off the tracks.

I am in --- If you are Citizen #220,000 or earlier, you should have an email to access test Alpha 2.0 on the PTU. They will be adding more and more to it all the time until they are comfortable to release to the Normal Update/Server.

It is pretty dodgy at the moment - but I am definitely up for some in-game co-op stuff to kick the tires.

I'm in PTU 2.0, however I won't really have time to do anything for another week or two.

I am in the 50k range some place. I haven't been paying attention to SC as much over the last 6 or 7 months for obvious reasons.

Ah, don't feel bad - questions need answers, so here ya go.

PTU is the Public Test Universe - Alpha 2.0 is up there now, and they are adding players to the list a bit at at time (based on your citizen ID#) so the folks who came in early and supported the development a few years ago are getting first look/try. But eventually, they will be rolling the Alpha 2.0 code over to the main player server.

So if you have a Citizen ID, it is just a wait for the email or until they release it to the normal server (shouldn't be long). If you don't have a Citizen ID yet and are thinking about playing; you can sign up for free ($0) and play around in 1.3 build with 3 ships until December 14th. If ya follow my referral link - it will start you with some extra UEC (in-game earned currency).

Got a friend that’s never tried Star Citizen? Now’s their chance to do so for free!

For the other folks who have PTU/Alpha 2.0 access; so far I haven't been able to actually get in-game, seems they have limits on active players/etc as well because all I am seeing are "Server Full" type errors. I will keep trying at different time-periods though.

UPDATE: Of course after writing this I went off, updated PTU and tried again and after a couple of "Server Busy" attempts, I GOT IN! Totally amazing... but yes still dodgy, I had a couple of client crashes (to desktop) and a few server (or at least the area I was in) crashes. Until we can get in - and stay in, it will be a bit before we'll be able to all hop in and crew a Connie or my Retaliator! But it was... totally amazing! Will keep trying!!

PTU just updated from PTU 2.0H to 2.0I
at this rate by the end of feb we will truly have a AAA game

I think they are up to 200,000 invites to the PTU now

Zhou, yea it IS moving along.... not perfect, but it is GETTING BETTER all the time!

Honestly; this is the ONLY game that I have ever seen that was so open with what they are doing and and working on. Normally, all you see are trailers/etc and dates games will be available for purchase. Lately the whole buy it in production thing has been popular - but none I have ever seen have been as open/communicative about what they are doing.

Yea me too - watched all of Jessica Jones over the past weekend myself.

The latest patches for Alpha 2.0 on PTU have been AWESOME, spent hours flying around without major problems/interruptions a couple nights ago. I even managed to NEARLY complete all of the Comm-Array resets for the quest and then a server hiccup bounced me out.

In case people missed it 2.0 has left the PTU and has gone live

Still buggy but still fun and great to look at

spent 10 mins EVA above the station originally to pouch on a spawned ship and pirate it.

Ended up just watching the players walking out to there ships and takeing off

Yup - 2.0 is fun... looking forward to MORE players per instance though, it was really hard trying to get 2-3 of us into the SAME instance. They fill up VERY quick at 16 players.

From what I heard 2.1 will come before the end of the year and will be increasing the instances to 40, so that should help!

Still a bit buggy - but definitely a lot less than it was in PTU server.

And 2.1 likely within the next few weeks. That will open up the servers a bit more (40 cap vs 16 now).

I have been able to play for several hours in 2.0 Mini-PU "Universe" without major issues. Sometimes the server you are on may drop (depends on what type of demented things other players may be doing - Crashing a Connie Andromeda fulle-speed into Port Olisar/etc). Mostly issues that I am seeing are ship-related, and I am reporting them as issues to the bug council.

The more we write up issues - the quicker they can fix/address them! :-) SO GET OUT THERE! 2.0+ is live for everyone!

2.1 Alpha released to the normal server today. Lots of fixes and updates, definitely a lot more stable! Still will need to work on the grouping thing, but what you guys mentioned above works. If you cant get everyone in... keep trying (even if it says that it is full in the list). If it keeps saying it is full then you join a new one, and they can bail and try to join yours.

Yea its a pain, but eventually you will find a server with enough slots.
