Why does it feel like we have a habit of shooting ourselves in the foot (feet?)?

I get helping out the SSR guys, but on the flip side, do we really need a second server? Seriously, we ought to be representing on our server (or in this case, our first server).

What exactly are we hoping to get out of this game? I can't be the only one who hates having to play on an empty server, but hates server hopping...

/rant

(Disclaimer: Everyone should definitely do what they enjoy and play where they enjoy themselves, but I feel like things are so scattered and falling apart with regards to Rust that we need to codify it somewhat)

I will say I lost my interest in this game around the same time everyone left our server and those series of wipes. Honestly, I think I enjoyed gaming with KGB once again more the actual game.

I understand why several people moved on to other servers so Im not throwing stones here but I didn't join the flock. I think the KGB clan vs clan was as much fan as I had on Rust.

That time we stood outside a guys house grunting like caveman all night while getting shot at until he came out then got chased down by three crazed maniac cavemen.......classic

In conclusion, I think everyone was scared of the Caveman Clan and ran off like little girls.

Yeah, Sethan, the Cavemen was great.

The Away Team is up to about 10-12 people, but there's nothing for us to do without anyone else on.

We raised a little afk havoc a while back, but that's not really fun for us.

Even got most of my BJTC folks to come on for a bit, (might work with us for Star Citizen) but nobody else has been in the server.

Nothing against Selenians server. I'm grateful he bought one and helped everyone of us to learn the game.

It's an alpha game but the constant wipes make people lose interest. You need more than just building to have a good time once that starts happening.

Getting server population is hard. After the SSR issue and changing ips we can't even get a 1/6 of what we use to see.

Many KGB like myself prefer to wear our tag and fight other people. It creates issues when your own guildmates are the ones breaking your house down. I don't want to deal with people in the guild getting upset. It is much more fun of a game when we are all together fighting another group.

The only reason we stayed with the SSR server is that we became friends with the admin there. Who does plan to join KGB at some point after his vacation.

Hope the KGB Olympics are going good. School/work till tonight but I got midterms next week on some advanced finance classes so I'm lacking on the free time at the moment.

Yes and no,

we can assume the wipes were relatively widespread (aka: it's alpha) so there ought be no appreciable fall off on individual servers without the entire game losing people.

It keeps getting glossed over that we had a slowly growing public population on our server until the SSR exodus. People now join and leave when they see it is so sparse, or don't join at all when they see 0 or 1/50. It's a logical fallacy to say "hey our server pop is bad after we left, so clearly it was going to fail anyway" As is saying "we don't want to raid each other and therefore we must go to another server"

Instead, the proper argument is "we don't want to raid each other, so we need a server (be it ours or someone else's) with a healthy population" That completely changes the dynamic of the discussion from this weird circular stuff we're doing here.

That leaves us with a question of: would we like to find a healthy-pop server (SSR in this case already being identified) to play on, or work to foster the old pop we had on ours?

Neither of those answers is wrong, and I support wherever we go. However, there are pros and cons to each.

The pro to looking externally is cost/administration - we aren't shelling out cash or time/effort to keep it running. The con is that we have little to no say in changes, even being friendly with Digi, he still gets to do whatever he wants with his server.

The pro to hosting our own is that we have ultimate control on events, mods, etc. The con is cost and effort of administration (the inverse of an external server for us to play on).

This is what I'm getting at with all the previous posts, but we appear to never quite touch on the actual topic - is cost an issue? is creative control an issue? If both are issues, which is of a higher priority to us?

I'm a control freak (shocker), so my vote is obviously with us being able to have our say on our own server (and if I was not back in school, I'd shell out to help with the server upkeep!). Other voices will vary and that is fine. Hell, dissent is great, not just fine! I think most/all of us will support whatever our decision is, but we can't just hover in this undecided spot of ambiguity.

Sorry guys, hate to say it but Olympics are canceled. With the last wipe, we lost all the arenas and stuff. The server is up and down everyday this week, seems our host is having problems. With that said, there wasn't a whole lot of interest, we may have had 5-6 people, most of this was from just people being busy or burnt out.

I'm officially closing down the server, just don't have the drive, patience, or time to keep it up to date anymore. Thanks all for playing, was fun. I'll definetly keep my eye on this game in the future, maybe when its out of alpha, if someone decides to host another server, it'll be alot more stable.
