What kind of FPS are the other beta players getting? I am getting 15 to 28 on my DFO era machine (New one brewing!!).

Please share and advise.

I run around a ping 2k, with 18 fps. My comp is 2 years old, with intrgated graphics card. I am also on satillte isp, but I am still getting good performance out of PlanetSide 1.

Same era machine, new 560 Ti card and I'm getting 30+ but when there is a bunch of units and fire on the screen I bog down quite a bit.. Going to try and chart it and see if it's CPU or GPU driven as it seems it's CPU at this point.

Oh and yes I just got in today and played 40 mins and sniped a few people and died to a few cannons.. Good stuff thusfar.

I am mostly driving lightnings because I get to much lag in fights.

I spent 15 minutes playing today and here's my impression:

Holy shit this game is not fun to play. All my settings are on medium and the graphics look like muddy dog shit, yet I am lagged to hell. I don't know what my FPS was because I don't know the command. Everything is very confusing.

You run so so so so slow and there is no cover anywhere. When an enemy sees you, you are instantly dead. Except it's not instant because the low budget death animation takes awhile and then you go back to a confusing loading screen. There are no firefights. You can't really dodge or strafe and the TTK is super low.

It's like UT2k4 onslaught knocked up Duke Nukem 3d and they had to put it on Sony's doorstep. I am not sure I can stick with it.

Not sure what happened but prior to the wipe I was getting 70+ FPS but at times prior to those good 2-4 weeks it had some lagging and lockups but hey it's beta..

Not sure what your running PC wise but it can and has run much better and it indeed is fun to play. What are your spec's?

I'm running a dual core E8500 w/ 4gig RAM and it does well but I will state as well this was prior to the wipe and I've not played since after the wipe. I'll start the download/update now since I'm sure there's a huge download again and try it again tonight.

I have about 80gigs worth of fraps movies too during this "good" time and even in the fraps the fps are decent.

look around 15 minutes. His graphics are better than mine but the gameplay I am talking about is demonstrated at its very possible best here. There is actually a ground firefight amongst two large teams with lots of cover and it still just doesn't seem fun to me. The ridiculous respawns, movement speed and TTK especially.

You've never played PS1 I see because all of those same things are in PS1, not much different there.

You need to roll with people and have an agenda and capture things but it's depth isn't what most would find nor state as engaging. It's a Pew-Pew for a few hours, get some points and buy some other certs (certifications) for new gear or bank for something bigger. If you don't like FPS such as COD, MW, etc this won't fancy you either although I don't enjoy the FPS genre as much as many and for some reason PS1/2 engage me the limited time I have (a few hours at a sitting at best). That could be the issue for most and tire many if you plan to dedicate hours upon hours of gametime to it at once.

Sorry it's not your cup of tea but it sounds like it's not the performance, as much, as the gameplay you don't like and unfortunately it's not going to change much other than new items, load-outs, vehicles and maps.

P.S. You still doing APB? My boy was looking at it, again earlier this week. I've not played since the live release bombed but wanted to try it (again, just not enough time anymore)

Yes. I love APB and UT2k4. I kind of liked Gears of War 1 and Halo 1 but I fell off the train at that point and I haven't played the COD, MW genre of fps really.

I was really expecting something paced like UT2k4 onslaught and it's not like that at all. The other thing is that the cover based shooting in this game doesnt really exist. If this game had Deus Ex 3 cover mechanics I might actually like it. But no, you peek your head entire body around a corner and die.

On TOP of all this the performance on my comp is pretty laggy and bad. It is an old comp but like I said, the graphics themselves don't seem to justify the bad performance

Yeah, I get ya I really do.. It's a specific, well "thing", and even from PS1 you either loved or hated it; not many were half-half on it.

I think the lagging, which I've not tested and may this evening, was due to them putting some debug trace on the servers and clients during beta to flesh out some issues/bugs/performance issues. Unfortunately in this type of coding (I don't do it specifically game coding but coding for manufacturing) sometimes to find a problem you have to cause a problem and I'm sure they are performance testing/tuning as it goes so while the graphics don't justify what lag/issues you were having it's most likely them doing this again. They've done it early in the beta and then stopped for a month (or two) where gameplay was virtual lagless for hours and hours and many on the ground, in the air and in vehicles.

One things you may try is some tweaks that Drakiis/Tas clued me up to early on. There are some settings that were magic back in those days and I had massive issues like you. Once I did some of those tweaks (which I'm not sure if would work again) it ran better but until they quit doing their massive trace/debug tacking it was at times unplayable for most. Prior to the character wipe I was running 60+ fps on high settings and it was fluid as all get out. I'm not sure if that would enhance your experience but I will say it wasn't much fun back in those days and maybe it could get better once it's running the way it was then?

Anyways, I won't bore you more Taco but maybe if you wanna get on vent sometime and I'm around we could run together because lone wolf in this game sucks; sucks hard. Team play is what it's designed for and if you get in a squad with voice ops and a good "gonna do this" mentality it is much, more, fun..

Let me help here, first off there is no auto run, so if you don't have your keybinding configed for it you are walking always, to sprint ot run you have to hold shift. Secondly if the graphics are shit then you have a shit machine, this game is high end, so much so that if you don't have a a current or next gen GPU your out, secondly to render the game properly dial up, satellite, dsl, or telegraph wire just won't help. Basically if your in the stone age this game isn't for you.

As far as server stability goes it depends on the server you choose, some are newer and are less stable. The Client has not been optimized yet, the "BETA" is still being tweaked, and so if you are surfing porn on your tool bar infested laptop, and have six bowsers opening while listening to music and vent people are going to have issues. I don't even run my antivirus when I play because some tech treads have been posted on the beta forums about some client issues with some antivirus apps.

Currently PS2 Beta is in what I have dubbed the "Hardcore Phase" They (the devs) have made gaining certs harder to test the game under a different population model. You can still gain good exp toward levels, but you get less certs to work with which has caused some issues with the lazyman crowd and some have left beta due to it. As Itchy said this is about teamwork and less about I'm a cool loner, as a Infiltrator you could pull off some stuff, but when it comes to trying to cap a Bio dome, or mega structure you need to either work with a crowd, or get with a outfit. Outlying capture points are far more feasible for smaller groups working well together.

To add also this game uses a cone of fire type effect, so if you are running or trying to move quickly your cof is huge and you are spraying and praying, if you [C] Crouch you have more stability and can peak around corners without to get of exposure, you can move while crouched and be more accurate then standing, moving and firing. You have to know what you want to do in this game before you do it, the coolness factor isn't going to work, heavy assault doesn't mean invincible, just as light assault doesn't mean hard to shoot.

It took me a while to figure that out, as a engineer I am not meant to be up front the first through the door kicking ass and taking names. and supporting is a art form.

HELL YEAH man I still love APB, probably one of the best games of all time, which is toatlly my opionin man. If u need anyone to show u the ropes i can definatly help with that. ALso Taco I miss APBing it up with you hit me up there or now in PS2 as i got my beta invite last night!

P.S. Just really wanted to confirm how much I love APB, I can start playing at 10am and then at 11am I realize its actually 3 in the afternoon. NON STOP ACTION!!!!!!

After the Hardcore Phase word has it next patch or two the devs are opening up the cert gain to allow the testers a full on chance to power cert in the things they like, so if you are a hard charger and dedicated player the wait will be worth it. After that phase certs will be dropped back to where they were before the hardcore phase, which was pretty good.

Another continent will be opened for exploration as well, and a few more features will be brought in. So expect three more character wipes over time.

I got in last night with my new machine (Without sound, G9, G19, or Nostromo) but it looked great and FAST. Going to be finishing up Sunday and see you in game next week!!

I changed my settings down to low and figured out how to show fps (ALT-F). I am getting 30-70fps now which is playable. Graphics looks pretty bad at this setting but I am not going to buy a new card for it. I managed to wreck some newbies as light assault with Magusto the other night, and it was kinda fun even though we lost the battle, I had a positive k:d.

The lone wolf thing does suck. The battles are really zergy. It would be cool if there were smaller battles where everyone participating is coordinating. So I am definitely down to participate in events with you guys, hopefully to see some of that action.

You will have to be either with a outfit or create one to play in this game effectively.

My favorite class from ps1 the infiltrator is not effective right now until they full unlock the stealth suit. Then you will have more special ops warfare:)

Well right now they are giving certs away for easy mode...so I have a full on Sundy Bus and Vangaurd, BR9 CR4

Downloaded PS2 today and got in late tonight to check it out. FPs were 24-50 but I the game kept crashing. I monitored my ram (max was 51% of 8g) and cpu (max was 44%) Maybe there are some nvidia settings I can tweak to avoid the crashes.


Can someone remind me of what server and clan to choose? I picked thebes since it was one of 3 that were up.



I will try it out again tomorrow.
