It depends.

Use rend to 25 for sure. There's no question then (unless you have a shit ton of Ash and you can mix in beacon). Rend is a useful spell early (and late if you push it up high enough).

If you are going for high level magic (i.e. Arcane/Necro/Elementals) then I would do unburden after 25. It costs 1 Mandrake (so it's the cheapest spell to cast possible) and it's quite usefull. You WILL cast it when using high level magic and wearing armor to lower your encumbrance and maximize your damage spells.

So: If you are going GM to 50 and then switching schools: Rend/Beacon to 25, Unburden to 50.

If you are focusing on GM (not many people do..Jag did) then Rend/Beacon to 25, Keep doing Rend and unburden....rend is very usefull post lvl 75
