Good stuff. Sounds like a reasonable move all things considered.

At the end of the day, the goal is for people to have a good time and for the guild to provide the right tools to help people organize that.
If it's not doing so in its current form then at least that faction/new guild has leadership who is looking out for its membership.

Only someone unreasonable would throw together barely-present leadership out of nowhere for the sake of splitting everyone up with beurocractic rules which end up holding people's KGB membership hostage - so I think `not` complicating this succession was entirely the correct move for the circumstances considering many of our knights are in fact having a good time playing the game in question with that organizational structure.
