I'm very excited about these new ships with the patch.

Launch - Basically the same as a pinnace (15 mods) minus the astrolabe.

Junk - 32 Mods (2 mods more than a Brig), Astrolabe. <-Requires only 1 ship building skill!

The launch has a single forward firing cannon. Without the astrolabe requirement you are going to see hundreds of these on the water. A large guild with a lot of players could totally use these in a goonsquad fashion, just zerging bigger ships with numbers.

The Junk has a confirmed 12 guns. For a ship of its size that is huge (more guns than a barque at 80 mods). This is the perfect ship to operate squadrons of 2 or more in my opinion if it has decent hit points. You have large broadside (so can put a decent amount of fire on the bigger ships) and low mat cost (easy to replace if one goes down).

My prediction is you are going to see a ton of junks and launches and as time goes on the pinnaces, sloops, and brigs will be sunk into extinction. Schooners will hang around in small numbers because of their speed and the larger ships will still be utilized but to a lesser degree. Why risk a ship of the line when you can put three junks in the water for a comparable mat cost, comparable firepower, comparable crew requirement, and the flexibility of three ships to one?

Time will tell!

The best with the launch, is turns and move like a raft. Which makes it dangerous for other ships which don't have the same maneuverability.
