Ok first thing
1:
Race selection is very important in pvp. the bigger or more you stand out in the crowd the more you will be targetd in group pvp. Ie: orcs dwarfs and mahrim stand out in a group of humans or alfar like a bannana in a apple basket. Also the bigger races have bigger hit box. Best race in game is alfar starting stats arent the best but u can easily raise your st and vit to be able to melee like the stronger races. Multi guild race is possible so if you have your heart set on dwarves have at em. They arent little they are just as tall as humans and alfar but 4x fatter.

2: starting location does not matter much its about a 10-15min run to the capital city in all noob starting locs. Each race has 3 starting cities.

3: Bank your loot dont farm for 3hrs and expect to make it back to town, Bank your loot every 30mins to a hour when your first starting out. Get your noob weapon changed asap. no since in wasting time leveling a weapon skill your not going to use. 20gold buys replacment noob weapon slot.

4: Use the enviroment i have been pked once in 3weeks. If you rest with your back to trees etc. its hard for people to sneak up on u and catch you off guard. Be smart some pks are nifty and theres going to be a ton of them around release.

5: hunt in pairs! or even groups. The alignment system in this game is unforgiving exploiters will jump in front of u when killing goblins so u hit them and once your flag he and his buddies will be able to attack you with out penalty. Have your friends body block when this happens if they hit your friend they will turn grey also and then the tables will turn. Most blue pk's will leave you alone if you do this because alot of the times these guys are not naked and dont wanna turn grey trying to kill you.

This above PvP advice comes from the 1st winner (Darka) for "Battle of the Keep" skills test of: run, find, fight and win in DFO not more then two or three nights ago.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but this is what I observed.

Hunting in pairs or more is going to be huge for survival. This will turn up your ability to maximize your time for the most gold, skill, or gear. As well, eating and chugging pots are probably the easiest way to tip a fight a tad, or more, in your favor once you get into a skirmish of more then a few moments.

Eating is probably the easiest of the two to make sure your doing. Work your harvesting up, which works up your base stats, and gives you the basic needed components to either trade to a Chef, or make it yourself. I advise finding the individuals in Clan making food and filter them your materials. This will save you gold on skill cost, and give the crafter fodder to skill up on (win/win).

You as well have to time your consumption of food and pot's. I usually save the pot's for PvP and use the food as well during PvE grindage. In PvP, consumption of stam/health/mana pots and timing when to use them can make the difference between winning and getting your poop pushed in.

You have pretty much a couple options for potions. I prefer option One myself.

1) Chug early and often and commit to being a potion whore and carrying stacks of them.

2) Wait until your down 40-60% and then chug sparingly, several of each pot is usually enough.

3) Carry very few and use them in emergency only.

4) Don't carry any, and rely on food. (Not advised if going into or through a known PvP area.)


Learn to time your attacks and retreat/regroups as well. Not only do you have a battle rhythm to your particular flavor of skill mix, but you have to know when to run, how to run, and to run often. Mostly running entails dropping back regrouping, or stretching people out and then moving back in on them with the numbers to your advantage. Knowing how to run is learning how to never be caught with no stamina and no path to egress, and no idea where to regroup. Don't allow yourself to get stretched out from the group. People who usually end up off on there own in space end up being targeted in the scramble to regroup or when your vectoring in.


Above all, bank early, bank often, and never get caught afk in the city in full gear by yourself.

Man, another reason why blue/red notoriety systems fail. It's a great theory on paper, but there's no way around simple exploits that just ruin the reason the system is even there to begin with.

terrain and crouching/ducking/hiding behind trees and rocks makes for amazing advantages in this game. You WILL use it and often if you want to be on the winning side of battles.

Not many people (once the game has been out for a couple weeks) will just run in and charge you face on. Rather they'll wait for a tactically advantage and catch you when your looting or etc.
