There is no denying that specific public appearance you linked to panders to evangelicals. I don't like that Obama felt couple votes were worth wading into that particular swamp. Still fine difference is that right says "we do X (opposition to abortion, gay marriage, so on) because the bible says so" and Obama says "look, what I am trying to do here does not contradict the good book".
