Aventurine recently took out a $24M loan. As Surely put it, they are financially committed to beta release sometime this year. Logically - $24M loan comes with Alot of interest payments, so unless you're Blizzard you can't just sit around with a $24M loan doing nothing.

The DF devs have no choice but push out a product soon. Prior to this loan they had no time restraints; now they've forced it upon themselves. They need to start producing an income and soon.

As for AoC, it can be carebeared as simply as creating a gore filter and a few adjustments to the code that increases the dmg/defense done by weapons and armor that can only be gotten through dungeon crawling.
