CIG is continuing its trend of out source elements to start the work and then bring in house to finish implementation. I would imagine that based on how the FPS module has gone, that what they received from Ill-fonic didn't meet CR expectations and wasn't optimized to minimum levels to meet the demand requirements and not be a laggy piece of shit. Word was in the back room that because the netcode is one of a kind for SC that the module they received shit the bet when integrated with the core client. You basically had all the worst realized issues, lag, latency, clipping, tearing, hit detection, ect. ect., that just kill FPS titles. It wasn't how the module "looked" or the functionality they provided, it was almost entirely core mechanics, phys-x and client/net code conflict.

At least CIG has the cash on hand to absorb the increased demand in bandwidth and the need for additional resources. That has always been their saving grace once they hit about 45-50M in actual funding.

Don't make me have'ta Troll ya Bro!
