This may be common knowledge to most of you but here is a way to practice casting without having to rest.

Be warned it requires Sulfur - if you don't have sulfur equipped one of the spells will not cast.

The process is similar to the cannibalize spell of shaman in EQ1 for those that played it.

The spells you use will be self heal and health to mana (25 lesser magic required).

If you are doing it live you will cast mana missile until you are down 1/4 of your mana bar (3/4 full) then cast Health to Mana, then cast Heal self, then cast Health to Mana, then mana missiles until heal self cycles then mix the 3 spells for maximum efficiency. You can pace yourself so between regenning in town and the spells you can keep going without having to sit.

If you were going to macro it you could put in sufficient pauses to keep macroing without sitting down. At least as long as you had the sulfur.

Nice time! Will try if I ever get enough patience to macro LM =P
just need 25lm to do this.

This is a pretty nice idea, I think once I get a little bit more sulfur, and I get LM past 60 or so once it takes insufferably long to level, I'll switch from Taco Salad's run/vigor/fortitude/sprint/rest/manamissle/lesser heal macro to this one. For now though, I'm still getting good enough gains in all those other skills that I want to stick with this macro a little bit longer.

What do you guys think, should I get 100 lesser magic (and the level 100 snare) first, or should I get elemental magic first? I feel like I should get 100 LM so I have a powerful naked spell, and to buy me a little more time to get the reagents I'll need to farm through greater magic and through elemental.

Also, does anyone have an idea of what each tree is like? I hear you can only train 2 elemental trees, and they can't be polar opposites (e.g. fire and water).

I hear a lot of the spells are almost identical, but I've also heard that for example Witchraft is curses, Chanting is buffs, Arcane is Heals (think Holy priests), etc. Anyone have an idea what the point of air, fire, water, and earth are?
While I'm at it, let me just say...

Earth! Fire! Wind! Water! Heart! By your powers combined, I am... CAPTAIN PLANET!

Unless you are trying to rank Health to mana specifically I wouldn't recommend it.. Rest is pretty useful, and I think resting would still be faster in the long run. I will try this out though and come back with some results.
