The KGB Oracle
Been working on my demo reel for college, this is 95% done even though I already passed, I'm going to fix a few things before the graduate portfolio show next week.

Enjoy.

ahh another new 3d artist in the mix... congratz on graduation soon. And good luck on the job market, it has been a tough one to get into for new grads lately. Don't get discouraged though just keep plugging out new models and applying and you'll get noticed.

Are you on any of the 3d forums? Like 3d total or Polycount? Joining those and getting involved can also help get you noticed more.

Your ship model seems to be the best and I'd head line that first on your web page. The car is cool too but I noticed a little crease or wrinkle near the back quarter panel of the car behind the door. Other artists will notice that too and will make comments about it. They are always so picky and want perfection! haha perhaps adjust the camera angle to not show that or try to fix the mesh?

Also don't forget to show wireframes of all your models as recruiters want to see clean meshes.

Anyways, good stuff and enjoy your last few months of college! wink

Rogee! that was pretty fucking awesome!

it's now your official job to make a KGB exclusive MMO laugh
I would love to get a 3d KGB logo for my KGB Movies. Like a KGB Ident.
Thanks for the critiques Thomas. I have those points on my 'to do list' but due to prioritizing, they're on the backburner at the moment. This reel was specifically for meeting the demo class criteria, I have some other assets that are about 75% done, but not close enough to put in the reel. Also, honestly most of this stuff are old files from the classes where I was actually learning how to model (ship and helo) or texture and light (bar and bedroom scene), so the meshes are like 1-2yr old.

I did an internship at Hydraulx ( http://www.hydraulx.com/2008/home.html ) and worked on Avatar as well as the new Gulliver's Travels with Jack Black, so once its on DVD I can grab scenes to showcase the modeling I did for them.

Hey Goddammit that's my bedroom!

lol JK awesome work man, I see the military heavily influences some of your work. A subject I am also heavily influenced by, Thomas is just being picky, of course there is always going to be constant improvement, and detail work that you'll eventually iron out in time as the tools become second nature. I saw all kinds of areas too but I figure you know where and what you need to do and work on. Austin Texas is a great place for starters, but as Thomas said, markets bloated, there are many students looking in the same places.

Someone recently retraced it. I need to find out who it was.
You should of said something earlier Hammer.

In my former lifetime I managed to compile a pretty good network in the game world.

One of my EQ/EQ2 buddies brother works for EA Studio's down in California. I have another friend I went to school with who is working at SoE in San Diego right now. I have two connections at Microsoft Game works, and one that still works for Raytheon doing 3-D modeling on the govt. contracting side.

Let's just say it pays to buddy up with the Asian's from time to time.

I have a friend down at SoE in San Diego, don't think he has much pull, but its something. Have a few alumni buds who are at various movie studios here in L.A. like Rhythm and Hues, Digital Domain, also have drinking buddies that work for Hydraulx and Disney.

Ideally I'd like to continue doing movie assets like I did during my internship, then maybe later switch to games. Only because I like to keep my hobbies and work separate, so my hobbie never becomes 'work.'

I have also kept the idea of continuing my education, to earn a Masters, so I can go back and teach. I enjoy teaching and have been told I can express concepts and ideas in ways that help people understand and learn easily, and I enjoy it. Also it would be more stable and secure for when I start makin' babies with a hottie. laugh
The USD to Russian Ruble conversion is pretty favorable now. You can buy a forward now, and then trade in the credits plus interest on a mail order hottie and be done with it.
Tas if you have pull still with people in the 3d world I'll be looking for some "good word" in about 6 months when I return to the states. I'll remind yah when it gets closer to that time! wink
so people I know went to fortress europa looking for work, the games and companies putting out many of the titles and computer animation products lately have been based there, however I also know that some of the small flash/java script companies putting out various small app games for like FB, or your cell phone will hire raw students and you can build up a good resume and enhance your knowledge and skills on a smaller scale till your ready to put in and make a greater leap. One could teach and pursue a masters and still on the side work in a online small app game company, but if movie industry is your thing, Disney is always looking for people, as was stated earlier.
