I had worked all night long 9pm-6am and after following a coworkers suggestion I reinstalled the game to finally have it work on my admin account. So things were going well until my wife entered the room and saw the blood of zombies going everywhere and started to nag about how it is too violent! How I am setting a bad fatherly example. etc etc Nothing I could do or say could convince her otherwise. I have a feeling this will not end well.
My experience in the game were very positive. You guys were awesome and amazing. The progression (3 days 1k prowess) is amazing. If in 30 days I cant get her to stop I will have to unfortunately stop =( If there is a guild bank I can donate my gold and materials to I will.
With much sadness and regret, goodbye Darkfall

Bummer... she does realize that most video games are not all puzzles and FB web games???

My 9 yr old has been watching and playing video games since he was old enough to hold a controller. Lets just say at 5 he was a very good sniper shot in Battlefield.

as a baby he sat on mine or his daddy's lap and watched us play. Since then he has swords and all kinds of fun (padded weapons) to swing around and play like he does in the games.

Oh did I mention that he is not a violent child.. yea he gets angry like all kids do, but he doesnt go and find a weapon to mass murder everyone.

Its about teaching your kids that Games are make believe and not real. Teach them that doing the things in video games will cause someone to be gone forever, that in Real Life there are no Do overs or Re spawns.

Sorry to get on a tangent about it, but im really tired of hearing that video games are bad for kids. They used to say the same thing about music in the 70s.. Moderation and teaching your kids right from wrong. Be a parent, not a censor.

Either way, Sad to see you have to stop playing to appease the wife. Maybe in the next Hello Kitty Online we will get to play together.

Does Darkfall have a rating like rated pg-13 or something I could show her? I have been saying the same thing which has been like talking to a rock.

Ask her if she would rather have you drink and gamble?
Posted By: Valaria Re: Angry Wife - 08/28/13 11:03 PM
i dont think darkfall is rated.. if it is it would have a Mature rating due to the fact that the game has no profanity filter.. and you cant prevent some random person from spamming your screen with bad things.

as for content though.. i would let my kid play this game with out chat easy.

This is a joke yes? Cause if not, you need to check for your own mental well being for the forseeable forever in a marriage. I recall the same arguements which began when my kids were little and the first days of UO. My kids are mostly grown, phenominal people with good values and I still play violent games like Darkfall and Call of Duty Zombies. No offense, but grow a pair.

I have to say, I tend to lean twords what vuldan said, kinda. I dont know you or your wife or your kids or your situation. And really, its none of our business except that you posted the details of it here.

That said, If you like me are a gamer, and like games etc something you might have realied by now is that a lot of games are "violent"

assuming that you, like most of us are american that means that you live in american culture, where we generally think that violence is funny. Watch TV for a few minuets, flip some channels there will be violence, and sometimes comical violence.

That said, unless you are home-schooling your children they will be exposed to violent imagery, sexual imagery, etc etc. And even if they are home schooled, there is internet out there if you look hard enough and the internet has all sorts of shit on it.

All that said, its your life, and what ever you need to do to be happy in it really should not fall under the judgement of any of us here. If you are unhappy, work on that shit bro. Life is short and we should treat it as such such (respectfully)

just my 2 cents.

I dont think exposure is a bad thing. I mean I played Cops and robbers as a kid then violent vids all my life and never had a problem determining reality from fantasy. If your kids have friends, just know they are all at the one house that is lax playing grand theft auto on a daily basis. In my opinion, it is better not to make it taboo.

It's like with alcohol: let your kids to try it soon and under supervision so it does not become some crazy taboo they go overboard when teenager.

Very true.. I know some parents that let their kid play GTA or even CoD type games.. with the sound on I may add.. so not only do they see the violence but they are also listening to foul mouthed 13 to 25 yr olds. We allowed my boy to play them but the sound had to be off completely. as well as we go over the difference in the game vs Real life.

cartoons are worse honestly... My kid learned most of his "shit talk" from watching cartoons like bakugan or beybladez.. those characters are always talking smack to each other.

I just watched the movie Rise of the Guardians, I put forward it was about elf murder and slavery as well as taking butt tons of acid. In the end we decided the moral of the story was if all your friends are maybe getting killed jump into a river of lsd because you will make it to the end of the story.
