Meeting Notes and Moving Forward

After Sunday’s BDO Faction meeting and taking time to meet with the Faction Officers, the following is the outcome and our plans for moving forward with the BDO Faction. For current members of the BDO Faction; please read through the text below and acknowledge that you understand by replying with a /sign /agree...

Our current membership IS passionate about the game, and feel like BDO is a game that gives the KGB community a chance to come forward and shine in-game. We lost more KGB tagged players yesterday because they wanted to do more PVP and our guild in-game is not “progressing” fast enough for them. BDO is currently an open faction, so they are within their rights to do this. The officers currently in-place are dedicated to playing the game and assisting KGB members and conscripts with advancement and opportunities to participate in Node Wars. As before; the players NOT wishing to participate in Node Wars will not be pressured into doing so, it will be completely up to them to decide what they will/not do. Our members also need to realize that as a whole we are LOSING great players to other guilds because we are NOT currently participating in PVP. Our player’s in-game can move at the pace that they prefer as there are no hard requirements – but keep in mind that there are others are working HARD to advance. If it doesn’t apply to YOU then please do not complain about it. We will be forming up a DEDICATED PVP squad(s), if you ARE interested in joining up - PM or talk with Yeiger / Dark Caesar for more info if you want to be part of that.

Guild quests: There are guild quests for: Kill quests, Gathering quests, Crafting quests, Trading quests. If you are online playing and there are a few folks online, DON’T BE SHY - ask if others are interested in a guild mission. These can range in size depending on how many people are online and can do them. An officer will need to fire off a guild quest as it takes guild-money to do this. ANY member can check to see the missions available (they vary depending on the server channel), if you find one that looks good and an officer will be online to fire it off (and to turn it in once completed) then go ahead and do it! If you aren’t working on something specific – it is always a good thing to do socially to help out. Certainly NOT a requirement, but it is a nice thing to do and you will get lots of resources/kills/etc for helping! What guild quests will do for KGB, is give to EVERYONE higher stats (Accuracy/AP/HP/Damage Reduction/Siege Weapon Resistance) and Gathering, Fishing, Trading buffs. There are also skills for summoning the whole guild and providing a respawn for Node Wars (which we just earned/unlocked).

Regarding communication; TeamSpeak IS a requirement. That being said, some ground rules need to be established and our own membership needs to enforce/maintain them:

1) If you are ONLINE and playing the game, you need to be IN TeamSpeak. If you are AFK (fishing/running/etc) it is optional, but strongly encouraged to be in TS (you can move to the AFK channel and mute output if you like). Be respectful of people in the channel and don’t just pop into sub-channels, they may have been created for a reason (private chat).

2) General Discussion IS just that; it can get a bit “chatty” and that is okay. If you DON’T want to hear that, please feel free to find a group that applies to you (Grinding/etc). The “War Room” is Battle Comms only – so don’t talk at all unless it is CRITICAL for the combat situation. If you want you can create your own “temporary” channel by right clicking the “Temporary Sub Channel Hub” and create a sub-channel. This will disappear once you close TS or logout.

3) We ARE a gaming community, so discussion of games/information outside of BDO, is totally okay. Due to rule #1, if people are playing BDO they need to be on TS. It is okay for them to be doing AFK fishing/etc. AND playing another game aside from BDO (*gasp*). What is NOT okay – would be TELLING people that they need to come join them in a game (of whatever) or actively using BDO channels for other game-chatter. BE RESPECTFUL (yes this is going to be a common theme here).

4) Politics, excessive swearing, and whining/complaining are not tolerated in the BDO channels. If you MUST do these, take it to your own channel – or take it to the “Sailor Talk Room”.

5) Loud environments are REQUIRED to use Push-to-Talk; nobody wants to hear yelling, barking, screaming, jet airliners, trains, boats, etc.

For all of the above TS rules, WE need to enforce them. If someone says something; DON’T take it personally, just acknowledge that people may have a sensitive mic or headphones. Not everyone wants to hear your world views or lengthy explanations. If someone asks for help and it will be a LOT of discussion, maybe pop down to a channel to do it. We are ALL playing the game to have fun and together – but sometimes excessive noises/etc can really degrade that “fun”.
Moving on to whining and negativity. There has been an awful lot of this lately. If you do have a complaint about something; and have options/solutions to offer – please bring it up to a BDO officer that you are comfortable talking with. It is probably a good idea to do this in an officer channel vs General Discussion. If you do NOT have suggestions or solutions to offer, or the problem is something that nobody has any control over; it is probably a good idea to just hold onto your complaint until you can. Some of the game changes/mechanics are completely out of our hands, whatever changes are made to the game may or may not affect things the way you (or others) perceive.

Drama; we definitely need to put a cork in this one as well. As noted above; if there is something that we can do or NEED to do as a group, pull an officer aside and make suggestions. If you have no suggestions, then there really isn’t anything that we can do to help. We are all working together to have fun as a community; throwing a wet blanket on everything does NOT help. To move forward we need POSITIVE reinforcement and a positive environment for the members. If bad things have happened in the past; LET THEM GO, to continue to bring them back up is not useful. For things inside and outside of BDO faction; let’s keep our goal set on building our community and growing. We can’t do that with negativity and a bunch of drama. Leave that stuff for the soap-opera folks!

In game communication is very difficult as there is NOT a way to email members or send “guild messages” to our members. Lots of players may be AFK working on skills/crafting/fishing/etc – so as a result it is hard to reach out to let folks know about meetings/events. ALL of our members (conscripts/etc) must either be on Oracle (the KGB website) or use KGB-Slack to keep in touch when AFK/offline. KGB Knights (and above) of course have Oracle access, but may not be paying close attention to posts there. It is really up to YOU to decide which suits you; Oracle and Slack can use a web browser, but Oracle can email you when posts are made to forums that you “subscribe” to. Slack can be used on a phone, tablet, etc for people that prefer that sort of interaction. Events and announcements will be posted on both Slack and Oracle – but our membership MUST take responsibility and pay attention to one or the other! If you have something to contribute or say (even if just to agree/etc) please DO post! It will really help folks to keep in touch and build our community.

Now for the final thing; recruiting. It is EVERYONE'S responsibility to represent KGB and to actively seek out like-minded players to join our ranks. Evy is our VC for recruitment, but this job isn’t on her shoulders only. If you see folks running around without a guild tag, ASK them if they are interest in joining or looking for a guild. It is also a good idea to keep an eye on the Global chat (yea I know… spammy hell at times) for folks that may be looking for a guild invite. BDO is a ROUGH game on new players… remember when YOU were a noob? It is like drinking from a firehose! Now imagine how hard it would be without the benefit of all your KGB counterparts helping you to learn the ropes? Well let’s all toss out some ropes to some folks. Maybe make a goal to ASK a certain number of folks a day – or something? If they have questions that you can’t answer you can definitely refer them to Evy or an officer – but let’s all do our part to help get more folks into our ranks! Keep in mind because of the “channel” features of BDO the communication and meeting of players without a tag are scattered across these channels, you may be on one channel talking with a person – but Evy or the other members are on other channels. If everyone does their part in helping recruit – it will help distribute this across multiple channels.

The only FIRM requirement is TeamSpeak and a willingness to work with others. KGB has an 18+ (with some flexibility) policy. But folks can come in as a conscript and decide if they want to apply to be KGB over time, as we are currently an open faction. Our focus moving forward is Node Wars and looking for ACTIVE players, if asked about gear score requirements – we are building up right now; 350+ is nice, but not required! If they are interested – shoot them the info about TeamSpeak, and meet them up in the Registration Lobby – once they are there we can chat more and some other knights/etc can pop up and interact with them. Find out what their interests are, what they are looking for, are we a good match – etc.

Thanks again for your attention and enthusiasm. Hopefully together we can continue to build KGB in BDO and move to a CLOSED faction once we have enough people together in order to do that. By working on this together – I know that we can do it!

For ACTIVE BDO Faction members; having read the above - please /sign /agree in response below. We are tracking that the current members whom are playing have read this and understand what is expected. If you have any questions/concerns please PM me or ask for some time in TeamSpeak. Thank You!
