Perry Indicted

Quote:
Grand jurors in Travis County charged Mr. Perry with abusing his official capacity and coercing a public servant, according to Michael McCrum, the special prosecutor assigned to the case.

Mr. Perry hired a prominent defense lawyer, David Botsford, to represent him. Legal experts said that other state officials who have been accused of crimes relating to their duties have had to pay for their own defense, and this was one of the first times Texas taxpayers were paying the bill.

I thought this was some typical Chicago politics in the news.

If you objectively look at the situation - it is clusterfuck from both sides.

First, you have Perry trying to dismantle critical oversight over his pork barrel program getting pinched. Shows complete and willful disregard to fiscal responsibility and transparency.

Second, you have commissioner who go booked for DUI for passing out in a passenger seat in a parking lot. Shows lack of judgment.

Third, you have Perry abusing veto to try to rectify #2. Shows complete lack of understanding of separation of power.

All-around is a mess, but Perry is clearly in the wrong.

I have no comment on the case because I can't be bothered to look into it further, but from your perspective, isn't whoever disagrees with you politically always in the wrong?

No Kaotic, this is just a narrative you constructed to help yourself avoid cognitive dissonance.

In case like Perry's I'd be inclined to overlook it, since there is no clearly wrong or right decision. But, just like Walker, Perry's core stance is fiscal responsibility/pro business. When things come out that go against such core positions I am not inclined to be forgiving.

To put it in a way you might relate. Say I got elected on pro-life platform. Then there is a scandal where I arguably abuse executive power to fund abortion clinic initiative because program director is my political ally. It just like that.

I find this to be of interest. Dash video of Lehmbergs arrest and video from when she was booked. If I were governor, I'd want her to resign, too. That's his job as the chief executive of Texas.

If you were prone to believe conspiracy theories, you might suspect that the indictment came about as a result of pressure from the White House to punish Perry for calling out the Texas National Guard to the border. We can't allow anyone to embarrass The Precious, now can we?

Perhaps you can explain how, in your world, attempting to get an irresponsible attorney to step down violates the principles of fiscal responsibility/pro business.

I think it rather obvious that steps taken to suppress oversight would violate these principles. Stated cause is just an opportunity.

How much oversight would Perry's appointee do?

Isn't it nice to see how Perry's news has so conveniently snuffed out the news on Obama's abuse of power? But what do I know.

Even the normal screaming liberals are calling this a B.S. indictment. Hell the New York Times is even on Perry's side.

That's probably because they recognize that this will blow up in the face of Democrats, and will only make Perry more popular and better known nationally going into the 2016 elections.

God I would love to see Perry as the Repub's nominee.

Perry vs. Clinton

The only way to win is not to play.
