My thoughts exactly, I think all of Scottland has broadband. I know a country the size of Missouri is way easier to wire, but that is no excuse. It is almost 2011 for god sakes!!!! Everyone should at least have the ability to get a 1Mbps connection by DSL/Cable/Wireless (not satellite)

Actually its half the size of Missouri.

Well, Scotland has 5.2 million people in 30,420 square miles and Missouri has 6 million in 69,709 square miles. For those who may be mathmatically challenged, that's over twice the area with only 20% more population. So, when you consider the supply and demand model, there just isn't enough money in it to make it worth while (yet) to have highspeed connections everywhere yet.

The flip side to that is every moderately metropolitan area in the U.S. has had highspeed connectivity for years while Scotland has only just acheived that same coverage, when you factor for population density.

If you check, in a lot of countries, broadband is not available when you're not in big cities. Because it costs a shit-ton to wire and if it's just to reach 5 more people, no company (even state owned ones) will do it.
I live in Nebraska think we have like 1.5 million people and we have towns that have 300 or less that have cable internet.

Wow, 1.6 million in the whole state. So the little town of 800 I use to live in would be a medium sized town there.
Well when the Cornhuskers play they say the stadium becomes the third largest town in the state.

Also around Omaha is where the most people live. I believe its near the million mark.
lol well I just recently came back to the internet world. We lived around the corner 1/4 of a mile before we moved into this house. We had cable internet there, come down the road a little bit more and moved here, a road with 5 houses, we didn't even have an option of internet. only 26 kbs of dial up lol..

until tuesday we nvr had an option. 18 long months paying 70ish dollars to get an air card to use on one pc was rough!

but now we're all good! I love tennessee so i am glad our road jumped into the 21st century
