Some things to note about Warband:

They removed some realism for the sake of balancing (I'd say IMBalancing), which IMO is fucking gay as hell.

1. If you're on horseback with a spear or lance, and are riding at full gallop - the lance will not set into a "couched" position. You literally have to left click to pull back with the lance and then strike, which is TOTAL BULLSHIT. One more chunk of immersion gone due to less realism.

2. When you're on horseback with a 2 hander, you no longer hang the blade off to the side, so you cannot do a ride-by-clothes-line attack with your weapon. NOW you swing the blade behind your head as you prepare for the attack - totally leaving yourself exposed. MORE Bullshit.

3. Somewhat similar to #2 when you're on foot with a two hander. This means you're not getting full force into your swing, and you're also leaving yourself totally exposed with a 2 hander.

4. You cannot allocate stats in Multiplayer to increase agility for better side stepping to both A) Dodge an attack better and B) use that force to deliver a counter attack with a weapon effectively. WTF were they thinking?

Two of my favorite attack types on horseback, plus the one on foot, plus stat allocation for multiplayer having been removed from the game has all but totally screwed my playstyle in the game. And you wonder why so many of the newer players are crying that archery is destroying everything else - they made it possible by all the steps they took to weaken melee attacks.

if you want realism go read a field manual, there are always limitations to a game based on the physics of the real world and the non-practical nature of game design. You cannot expect any game to be able to precisely recreate the dynamics of our real world with a 100% accuracy, it's just not always possible, and more importantly you will never be able to please everyone, because even if they did include all of your gripes, who's to say some other person disagrees with you and sees other issues you haven't mentioned. Where does the criticism end and the playing begin? A game would never leave the design phase and be released to the public given someone seeking perfection of real world physics, at some point you have to draw a line in the sand and do the best you can with what the game gives you, adapt and overcome sound familiar?

My point is:

They took a perfectly fine engine from original Mount & Blade that I loved, and wanted to play multiplayer with, and fucked it up. WHY OH WHY? It was intuitive, realistic, and fine. They didn't need to make those changes. They wasted time to make the melee fighting with those attack types total bullshit, when they could have focused elsewhere or released earlier.

Crimthan, I totally agree with you.

But, it's still mad fun to play.
