Well this is a oxymoron and i don't catch many of the errors out there but i read this and thought wtf

EverQuest: Seeds of Destruction, on the other hand, is a little lighter in the new features, but then this is the 15th EverQuest expansion. New additions include a level cap increase to 85; 20 new zones that feature both "re-imagined classic content" as well as all-new realms; player-controlled NPCs called "Mercenaries," which will scale to the player's level and provide "extra muscle in PvE encounters;" and access to all the content from all previous EverQuest expansions. Both expansions will also come with Legends of Norrath, a "strategic online trading card game."

Player Controlled NPCs = What the fuck and the guy who wrote the review doesn't deserve his paycheck

Jumbo shrimp? LOL.

That's as funny as Ms. N. Carolina explaining why some Americans cannot point out the US on a map.

Player controlled NPCs were in UO early on. I used to hire a bunch and then lead them to their doom in a dungeon near by where fire fields spawned. When they died, they dropped their armor which I promptly picked up and sold in town and raised cash.

Its not really an oxymoron.

Player controlled NPC is basically a pet.. at least that's how I interpret it. So just a mercenary pet.

Did you guys forgot the basics of RPG's ? NPC is a NON PLAYER CONTROLLED char such as a vendor or quest giver you all know this lol it means you CANT CONTROL IT so yes it is a oxymoron for a Player to control a NON PLAYER CONTROLED CHAR

Seriously i love you all

And no i played everquest just like a year and some change ago and in EQ they added things like changing from your cleric to a (mob type) say a Bear or a Fairy which can scale to any level you wish from 5 to 80 (or up to your max level if your not 80) so say you 55 then you can change into a 55 bear but if your 59 you can only goto 55 still until you reach 60 i believe so that way you if you can't find a tank but have 2 clerics your cleric can goto the NPC and change into a tank Bear for the xp or instance your about to do

The mercenary i see as just another class to change into to adapt to fights to balance a group out if you don't meet the req's to finish places... But could also be the hired NPC but just runs around and does whatever it chooses to once you can command it to attack it's no longer a NPC it becomes a pet

Actually NPC stands for Non Player Character.

Back to the point, I thought it was funny to have a "player controlled" NPC

Hehe Rep

NPC's in some games have some limited control or in other
( Such as Baulders Gate and the like ) you actually
controlled much of their combat if you chose to do so.

While interesting, trying to keep up with an entire groups
worth of combat made it somewhat overwhelming
When i think NPC i think Quest giver Shops etc

I dunno why i keep thinking NPC meant controlled and its char lol But i think the writer in the entire post could've worded his review alot better i was lost but most his knowledge on the RPG genre but i got my head busted open with this since i fucked it up and posted a quote outta there i was wrong about heh

lol
