The KGB Oracle

Anyone interested in starting up KGB in this game? Made by SOE.. It opens tomorrow, 1/30/07.

Looks decent, not much PVP yet, but you can own homes, mounts, etc.

If I get the game tomorrow, I'll post the server I'll be on.

Dcengr, play on Tharridon the ffa pvp server. It is a great game, have played since beta. BUT the best part is that there is an item loot from pvp death server coming out soon. Haven't heard the exact details but that should get people to come play. As it is now, it is pvp within 5 levels of your own with death sending you to your bind point way back in the city. Crafting is good I hear too. No intancing !!!
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 01/30/07 04:01 PM
Are you playing? Is there a KGB faction there already?
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 01/30/07 04:04 PM
Btw, I think the real name is vanguard: saga of heros..

I got the game, will go to Tharridon under dcengr...

Just a warning.. high system requirements. Requires P4-3Ghz, GeForce 6800, 2 gigs of ram.. 20 gigs HD space.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 01/31/07 04:44 PM
I tried to add you to friends list but couldn't find you. My ingame name is Mallet, lvl 14 cleric. I am an officer in a guild but there are only 7 of us so far. It would be nice to have some back up against all the pks. I am in the city of khal, which is the darkelf set of races (can't remember if that is the second or third set of races available at character creation).
Posted By: Garal Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 01/31/07 11:33 PM
So far I've only heard bad things about this game =\
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/01/07 06:24 AM
This is a decent enough game, so far. I didn't play beta, but I got to lvl 8 tonight, and the quests were mostly decent.

Got ganked about 10x tonight too. Crafting system is VERY involved.

The game play is half twitch (ie reflexes). PVP was a decent hack and slash.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/01/07 05:35 PM
<3 vanguard atm.....
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/02/07 03:10 AM
Need more KGB presence, if some will join up. At lvl 10 now.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/02/07 03:58 AM
is it all lvl grind like wow and equipment based also?
Posted By: nastynitro Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/02/07 04:19 AM
hey i just bought it, what server you guys on? hopefully pvp server, im not in KGB but been playing with your clan since Shadowbane first few years wit holrom, im really wanting to get in before darkfall *cough*cough, if it ever releases*cough, anyways bout time i find a common game since sb days to play wit you guys. let me know what server and im down for playing!

BTW, not in KGB yet so just want to start playing with you guys so i can get responsered and reapply.
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/02/07 06:56 AM
Yes its level based.. yes its equipment based.. but its also skill based.

HUGE # of races and classes and attack tactics. Game is far more twitch than WoW. Combat is pretty dynamic.

In WoW, I was able to play with 4 toons dragged on my ass (yes I was playing all 4 with 4 keyboards/computers). I can't do that in this game.

VERY large land mass.. you can own houses, horses, your own ship..

Crafting system is the most involved I've ever seen in any MMORPG. So in a way, crafted equipment may make a big difference vs. quest mob loot.. though I'm not sure yet, I'm still a noob.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/02/07 09:24 AM
hey dcengr the guild we are in is currently waiting for the item loot drop server so we will need to find another guild if we want to do anything until then....

nice to have a tell from you though !!! <3

So your the one! I was wondering what ever happened to you. I assummed by playing WoW x4 you had enough game time to retire 4 life. hehe

ewww. CQ, my old guild led by craptard Zorak, is hanging with PRX in Vanguard...

its something i need to know b4 i try it lol
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/04/07 02:47 AM
seaelf get in vent! talk to me about this game
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/04/07 03:23 AM
right now there is pvp within 5 levels of yours, although I have never had to pvp someone outside that five levels difference because most of the people in your zone where you are questing and farming are within 5.

As far as item loot, as of now, there is no item loot when you kill someone but within the next month or so there should be an item loot server, so when you do kill someone they drop all the stuff they were carrying. I will keep you posted as to when that server starts. And there will be no character transfer to the item loot server so we could all start to play then. @!!!

Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/04/07 06:22 AM
I am not sure if item loot server will be coming out any time soon. The reasons are:

1. This game requires serious horsepower. Gfx are the best I've seen for MMORPG, but you need a duo core, geforce 8800 system with 2 gigs of ram and SATA in strip raid configuration to get the horsepower to play this.

2. WoW burning crusade came out, no one's moving to any new MMORPG until they get bored after hitting 70 and doing the same stupid camp job as before.. give it 5 months for people to start switching. Til then, not enough people in this game to warrant a brand new pvp server.

3. This game's absolutely brutal. Far more brutal than WoW. Dying and having to do corpse retrieve.. practically no tutorial.. ya its EQ hard core. It will turn many casual gamers off. Especially for pvp, its wild wild west out there.. there's roving gangs ganking you for spell money and just plain meanness to send you back to your bind point (which are far and in between).

So.. great technical game, but very complex. It will grow slowly is my guess. I'm lvl 15 now, and will play there til KGB goes to darkfall or moves over to vangard.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/04/07 09:02 AM
I hate how you can't see pc's till you are so close to them. Then they all of a sudden pop up on your screen. I also think it is hard to read a guild name until you are even closer. It is easier for gankers that just kill everything in sight.

Oh but dcengr is right you do lose money every time you die so there is some incentive to pk.

Hey dcengr saw your app on prx, I am so pumped that would be good to be in same guild !!
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/04/07 05:29 PM
well i got the game dunno from there.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/05/07 12:43 PM
sweet ryu !! I really think you will like it. The ffa pvp server is Tharridon. wooooooooooooooooo

if you and your texas crew start playing maybe we should have our own guild or at least be part of the same one.
Posted By: Crimthan Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/05/07 11:35 PM
Ryu, lemme know how itemcentric this game is ASAP!
Posted By: khi Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/08/07 12:11 AM
i like the way it looks cant wait to start playing it
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/08/07 01:29 AM
Again you need a powerhouse of a machine to play this at full gfx...

Core2duo, geforce 8800GTX, 2+gigs of ram

Then you might be able to play at 1280x1024 at 30fps in cities.

PVP is a pain if the other guy's got a fast system. I've turned down everything (even sound), and at 1024x768, I still lag in pvp fights.

They need to seriously optimize the gfx engine or something.
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/08/07 04:26 AM
i dont lag to bad but i turned down the gfx alot but im used to games not looking good so it looks way better all rdy with no gfx lol. My in game name is Ryux lvl 7 atm we will probably have 3 of us playin by the weekend.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/08/07 04:37 PM
I heard you get into vent last night ryu, name is Mallet in vanguard. Pvp is pretty fun, you will probably catch up to me I am going on vacation end of the month for a week. Dcengr and I grouped last night, but couldnt kill a druid, not sure why LOL.....
Posted By: Anonymous Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/08/07 06:24 PM
well i got pked when i hit 7 lol. go figure mei how ever killed the higher lvl monk that attacked him think he was 9.
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/08/07 06:45 PM
I was thinking about that druid; he snared me, then I ran out of mana trying to nuke him, then I think his buddy showed up. I think about 90% of guilds are KOS with PRX.
Posted By: Malphas Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/09/07 10:56 AM
I was thinkin about getting this game until I seen the system requirements. Basically I would need a brand new pc. Then again its tax season. muwhahahahahahaha
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/09/07 02:50 PM
Hey Ryu, I don't know what class is hot right now. Clerics are good if you can believe all the nerf clerics posts in chat. I think warriors are ok with good gear. Basically its all fair game with nerf bat going around. Sorry was going to mail you some gear but I think I sold everything. How do you texas guys like it so far??

it's pretty fun right now, i dunno I'll play anything for a little while, as long as other people are having fun with it I usually have fun with it too.

Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/10/07 01:35 PM
yea clerics are awesome !! hopefully they won't get hit by the next nerf bat...

I am already trying to plan out what I will play next after they nerf em...
Posted By: Uber Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/11/07 02:18 PM
Ok I paid for and downloading as we speak what server what class how do I find you.. we need to create new pages for this game on the site since enuf of us are trying it and since Uber is on it everyone will now want to come even Syev heheh JK
Posted By: Slinger Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/11/07 04:19 PM
Uber, the second you log into Vanguard you are banned from downtalking Darkfall because you will have officially turned in your leetness badge for a pretty eyecandy badge. At least it isn't WoW, I guess...

Some tips for gfx performance..

This involves overclocking and/or tweaking your gfx settings. Do so at your own risk.

The parts required to build a new system would set me back a bit over 2K. I don't want to play it THAT bad. . . . . lol

If you optimize for Vanguard your system will destroy Darkfall when it comes out! ^_^

Uber, you still playing this ?
Posted By: Seaelf Re: Vanguard: saga of heros - 02/15/07 11:58 AM
I think he is playing, he hit lvl 7 last night and started woopin ass !! We have all joined PRX, at prx-guild.com, they have about 3 goups going during prime time, so PvP is pretty good, and they do have a vigorous KoS policy...
Posted By: Crimthan Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/15/07 04:05 PM
SOMEONE tell me;

-how difficult leveling is in this game
-How bad the item-grind is at end game (forced raiding to compete in PVP?, etc)
-If there are coupons so you don't have to pay for the first month
-Knowing my preferences, would I like this game (example: Ryu could probably guage this, among others...)

I want this info on my desk ASAP!!!!!

Does this mean that leveling may be faster to make up for permadeath? I'm all for permadeath if it's expected and only happens AFTER you're knocked unconscious and someone does a killing blow - but if leveling is a bitch then this can seriously suck ass.
Posted By: Dcengr Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/18/07 12:21 AM
Perma death server is going to be one big grief.. i doubt anyone's going to move there.

PRX (of which all of KGB that's there are rolled into) is staying in tharradon as far as I know.

Leveling to about 10 is a few hours worth of work. Grinding gets exponential from there, though doing quests definately is better because of items and being grouped by default.

The game has super high machine requirements, so I would recommend a core2duo system with 8800gts card for best game play.

My P4-3ghz with Geforce 7600gs DOES NOT CUT IT. Had to order a core2duo with 8800gts..

Anyways, game is absolutely gorgeous, no instances. We've fought plenty of times while questing in dungeons. Even buildings outdoors, no zoning. PVP is imbalanced via classes right now, but its very fast paced.

You can build your own towns, so that's where the fun will come in later. Crafting is immense, and very powerful. This game's old school in many ways like UO, though I think they need to make pvp deaths a bit more painful.

Currently you lose some infamy (not sure what this does), and some coin on death.

Still, I just love chopping wood like in UO, and can't wait to build my own ship and have my own house again.

perma death sounds like a bit of a penalty eh?? i think the more hard core the pvp the better..

Nobody would ever break level 10. Either that or nobody will PvP because the penalty is too harsh. Think of D2 hardcore mode but now add 1000 idiots running around in your games. It was hard enough to avoid death just from lag.

OK I WILL SAY THIS ONE LAST TIME THIS GAME FUGGIN OWNS IT ROCKS ITS THE BOMB I LOVE IT AND DARKFALL CAN GO TO HELL IN A HANDBASKET!! Hehe Seriously tho did u honestly look at the graphic video they posted? Its just terrible terrible terrible. Yes u need a big rig to run Vanguard but then u will need a big rig for any of the new games coming out. Its always been that way. We dropped loads of money back in the day to get a good connection for UO.. same thing here and I will tell u the game is definlty worth the investment. I am having a blast! Massive pvp encounters everywhere all of our enemies of old are here and out in force SUN Panic Dissent Masquers are just a few that I fight daily. SO GET WITH THE PROGRAM!!

i run it on 1 gig of ram 1950 xtx video card 5000+ cpu 2.6 its not to bad i up graded to 2 gigs of ram and it runs great. im using ddr2 6400 ram. other than that its not to terribly bad at first it was hard core but they have been patching it alot.
Posted By: Uber Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/23/07 12:42 PM
Its being patchted every 5 days and good patches too with a lot more stability. I gotta say I am honesty impressed by the team and the changes. They are thoughtful and not shot gun approach patches. What intrigues me most is that they are seriously balancing PVP already so early on in the game.. Are their bugs? OF COURSE! Theres still bugs in UO 9 years later so get real. People that expect bug free play should just go dig a hole insert head and cover imo! Its all about.. are u having fun? Yes! Can u PWN someone and get your pulse up YES! Is there enough content so that its no tedious? YES! Is the game world big enough so that its not stale but yet not so big you cant find people to waxxor? YES!! OMG OMG OMG!!!
Posted By: Arcain Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 02/23/07 11:59 PM
ps, you can own houses and guild halls
Posted By: Longshanks Re: Vanguard: shadow of heros - 03/02/07 03:27 PM
I jumping in last night ... started ~8PM & hit L5.5 by midnight.

I threw it on one of my mid-range systems ( P4 3.2GHz, 1GB Dual Channel RAM, ATI 9600 128MB) ... I set the rendering setting to Highest Performance and so far, the game is playable, at least for leveling up & getting the feel for the game .. looking like 20-30fps, the graphics are definately trimmed down from even the balanced setting, but what the hell .. it is all about the PvP anyway!

I can hijak one of my music production systems if need be ... One of these puppies is a Dual Core, 4GB RAM monster that would only need a beefy video card, I am more of an ATI vs nVIDiA fan .. so if need be I will hijak the music system, or just bite the bullet & do a dual-core processor, couple more sticks of RAM & video card upgrade on my mid-range system.

But, so far so good with what i have, we'll see in PvP and OOOooooOOOoooOOOoo
