My understanding is that Dunlop is one of the most skilled players we have in PvP. It would be nice if he posted a writeup on how to PvP. I.e. tricks and such to be a good PvPer. This of course should be posted on a secure forum, but I'm still a candidate and can only start a post on the public forums....JETSTAR

I'll do a write up later today..however, the BEST thing to do it go out with our DFO badasses in PVP groups. It works incredibly well when we have 4-5 veteran DFO PVPers in a group and one or two new guys. When you're one of those one or two new guys, I can't express how important it is to watch everything they do.


I won't pretend to be the uber one in the guild. People may think that, and they may be right or wrong. What I am, is one of our most experienced PVPers in DFO that has adapted his style of playing to suit the game. You can't play DFO like you play other MMOs.

Look for a write up in the candidates forum, or internal news forum in a couple of hours....Can candidates see the Internal Info forum?...I only have about 45 forums on the Oracle..no idea who can see what.

Not to downplay Dunlop in the slightest; but simply because someone is in a leadership position doesn't mean they're the technical expert. Many times a great leader is someone who can inspire others, discipline others, and/or has great abilities at managing the technical experts. Yes, some leaders are both the technical expert and a great leader, but that's not always the case - many times it isn't.

There are 5 forms of Leadership Power - Expert (Technical) Power is just one of those forms.

Dunlop, apparently you still don't understand my original post. It was a general remark, directed at the OP, commenting on a common mistake I've noticed in gaming for a long time: People generally in gaming assume that whoever is an appointed leader *must* be the technical expert at one-on-one PVP. This has NOTHING to do with your own prowess at PVP, Dunlop. I'm pointing toward misconceptions of gamers as a whole to believe that whoever is in charge should be badass at PVP, or vice versa: whoever is badass at PVP should lead. While it's great to have leaders that can hold their own in PVP, there are 4 other types of Leadership Power besides Expert Power:

1. Referrent Power: Power based on Camaraderie & Familiarity - people follow this person because they've been through hell and back together. Usually more charismatic leaders.

2. Reward Power: Power based on reward - people follow this person because they know the leader will reward them with X item or wealth. Mercenary Leaders, and leaders such as Jetstar.

3. Cohersive Power: Power based on cohersion - people follow this person out of fear. They know that if they fail, they'll be punished. Example: Darth Vader

4. Legitimate Power: Power based off of Rank alone - people follow simply because you're the ranking individual. Example: 2nd Lieutenants in the military - although they haven't proved themselves yet, the enlisted must still respect their rank.

Many leaders are appointed not for their expertise of skills-at-arms, but for other reasons, as shown above.

I would use the term "assclown" now, but I'll refrain. The reason why I asked for Dunlop's write-up is because he seems to lead the PVP groups the most and gets good results.

Where i come from that is called GOOD and I want to learn from that experience.

Fair enough. At first glance it looked as though someone had looked at the leader roster, grabbed a random name, and asked them how to PVP better. I had to make a general post because issues regarding PVP skills and Leadership in MMOs have been bothering me for a long time. Slight tangent; RL military leadership is done much differently than what happens in Gaming Leadership. Ironically enough, gamers appear to try to emulate aspects of military leadership, but end up doing something much different or nearly opposite of what actually happens in the military.
