Yes I was in the rain today in the audience. Swag for miles and miles and miles...

A little toot on my own horn. I have crushed a lot of bonuses and personal agenda's in the last 2 years to try and make this baby profitable.

ANA = All Nippon Airways, and yes that is the plane alarm going off in the background at the end of the video.

For a little play by play...

The first guy talking is Scott Fancher the VP/GM of the 787 Program. I have to deal with this schmuck on a monthly and quarterly basis. His motto is screw you, where is my money.

The second guy talking is Jim Albaugh the President of BCA (Boeing Commercial Airplanes). I have met this guy five times now since he took over a couple years back. Old, white male, power. Enough said.

Hudason-Szenichero Ito, this gentleman and CEO from ANA is a rock star in the Asian air market.

Nice and grats.. Always good to see a project through fruition..

I've just recently finished up my Mexico project and they are already telling me I'm heading to Brazil in a month or two.. I don't like traveling but maybe this time would be a good one to go? smile

The 787 will be the first Airplane produced that is 100% Electronic Enabled. The first commercial airplane built in the digital age. This means that while in flight the WiMax is in full effect and you can stay connected during your flight. The business class even offers plug ins at each seat. I think the economy sections have a hard point plug in in each row and a spot for three plugs.

This airplane produces the same amount of Megawatts as a small power plant for rural use.

The OS on the airplane is a black box linux with a Aerospace GUI overlay that looks suspiciously like windows. Zero code and electronics or electronic sub components are allowed from China.

No Phaq, this is a huge bad ass plane. My first project at Boeing, the 747-8 Freighter.

All glass cockpit, fly by wire flight control and navigation, no analog systems, it's the commercial version of the military systems that have been in use for years. Probably adapted from Boeing's military division

All Boeing commercial aircraft use fly by wire. Airbus uses fly by wire, but it has a notorious black box that overrides the pilots all the time. It is what has caused several Airbus planes to go down and be lost when they get in the coffin corner of situations.

You would think that Drakiis, but we have to be very careful about leveraging Government paid for R&D into commercial applications. It is a form of illegal subsidies, and Boeing and Airbus do serious battle in the World Trade Organization courts over exactly that issue.

I know the government reassesses the technologies yearly to determine security concerns and will allow some technologies to go commercial when sufficient time passes, all dependent on the technology in question of course.
